The sun was setting on the horizon just as the raven pelted brute shifted his frame into motion, pulling his weight from the terrain. The encounter with the cougar still fresh in Kaija's mind but he could not dwell on past events, For a more pressing matter needed to be addressed and that matter was. The current size and strength of his pack, Sure the winter had taken its toll on his lands much like it had the surrounding lands but Kaija did not care about their well being. After all they were none of his concern, in fact as horrible as it would sound to any wolf outside of the Seriss. He hoped all the other packs had perished, Especially the Dairimi. A damn thorn in his side was all that pack has ever been.
Shaking the debris from his pelt and the cobwebs from his mind, The heartless Alpha climbed up onto a rocky ledge close to the mouth of the pack cave. Then shifted his head skyward allowing his lips to part unleashing a piercing howl into the night air. The message behind it was very clear Any and All surviving Seriss pack members were to report to the cave or risk incurring the Alpha's Wrath. After that was finished the brute lowered his head back down his icey cold optics scanning his surroundings. Would they truly heed their Alpha's call? Of course they would, at least in his mind they would or he would remind them,...Painfully why he is to be respected and obeyed.
Since he seemed to have time to spare, Kaija lowered his lower half into a seated position with his tail wrapping around his towers, His lids slowly sliding down over his unfeeling optics while his auds remained fully alert. Picking up any sound that may be in the surrounding area. A low rumble forming in his gut before working its way up his throat as he once again found himself remembering the encounter with the feline.

ith its thick, cloying fogs and perpetually shaded atmosphere, the ancient willow forest was easily one of the eerier parts of Seriss territory. The low hanging willow branches were like grasping tendrils reaching down from on high, and no matter how long Medusa spent in the land, she always felt as if the eyes of souls long past followed her every move. She couldn’t help the way it made her blood pump headily through her veins, like she was fresh from a run– or a fight.
Medusa had been loping leisurely amongst the gnarled tree trunks when a familiar howl tore through the silence. Ears and head perking up, Eddie’s maw split into a wide, toothy grin, a hoarse cackle slipping past her lips. Was Kaija getting lonely? No, not likely. She sincerely doubted that the brute that had led the slaughter against her birth-pack was capable of such a feeling. No, he probably just wanted to take stock of his ranks, maybe impart a few orders before sending them on their merry way. Another chuckle escaped her before the mostly-stable lupess changed the trajectory of her walk, pace increasing to a light jog as she headed for the cave hidden deep in the recesses of the forest.
As she entered, it was clear that she was the first to arrive aside from the alpha himself. He sat atop a stone ledge, eyes closed, but the warrior was certain he’d never truly let his guard down just before a pack meeting. The tall she-wolf shook out her ruff, head cocking to the side as a low rumble reached her ears. Surely he wasn’t growling at her? Not that she would blame him if he was. ”Did you miss us already?” The quip left her unbidden, droll tone at odds with the respectful dip of her head. She had appearances to maintain, after all.

As expected it did not take long before his pack started to arrive, though the brute took his time in acknowledging their presence. Letting his thoughts of the cougar slowly drift away before opening his emotionless optics, glancing down at the first wolf to arrive and of course it came as no surprise to the brute that it was his warrior, Medusa. though it might of been a surprise for anyone who knew the history between the unfeeling Alpha and the Seriss warrior. He had personally seen to the destruction of her birth pack but in a moment that could of been seen as out of character for the brute. He had spared the fae standing before him, Was it pitty or did he see something deep inside her? Well those who knew Kaija would know that it was the latter, for Kaija did not feel pity for anyone.
”Did you miss us already?”
This remark was met only by a stern look from the brute then silence filled the space between them for a few moments. Before his head dipped ever so slightly to acknowledge her arrival finally, His maw parted shortly after. "Medusa, I should have known you would be the first to arrive" Kaija remarked, his cold unfeeling optics locked on the fae for a few heartbeats before finally he shifted his gaze away from her and toward the heavens. To be fair Kaija was fully aware of some of his pack members giving themselves nicknames but he for one was not about to call them by that. To him it was.. too familiar for his liking and the brute always prefered to keep a certain distance between himself and those who followed him. Instead of waiting for the others to arrive his tone flowed into the deadly silent air around them once more.
"Is there anything you would like to report from your travels?, Have you encountered any of your fellow warriors?" He questioned, His optics still locked firmly on the heavens above them, though one of his ears shifted in the direction of the fae as if waiting for her response. Kaija truly held no expectations for any good news coming from his warrior. After all surely if more were alive then they would not risk angering their Alpha and would have already arrived alongside Medusa or would arrive shortly.

The oh-too familiar stench of blood wafted in the air all around her, unrelenting and bewitching, incessant and ever-so permanent. As if it had always been here, refusing to leave no matter what or who decided to dwell in this accursed cave. As if it had always been here, regardless of the unmoving canine lying at her paws, his pelt more crimson than gray. He stayed still, his jaws slightly parted. Only his chest heaving with every breath served as a reminder than life had yet to leave the wolf's lungs. She barely knew his name, all she knew was that he was a juvenile hunter with little to no experience. So young, and so broken and mangled already. So young, and already debating with the Grim Reaper for his bare life.
The world worked in strange ways.
With great care, she pawed a generous amount of herbal poultices into the disciple's wounds, staining her fur with red and green in the process. Then, wads upon wads of cobwebs and large leaves followed, a hope to prevent a nasty infection from settling in. The first night would be the hardest, plagued by biting, snarling pain and memories of a failed challenge against a bull elk. Sibylla prayed that if he made it to dawn, he would soon move on from the almost lethal encounter with nothing but a few faint scars where sharp antlers met skin. She prayed, wishing that whatever deity there was out there had not forgotten about this pack.
As much as everyone in the Seriss hated to admit it, they needed all the help they could get.
A loud yowl pierced her ears, mercilessly snapping her back into reality akin to a thunder amidst a raging storm. She blinked, the young wolf still curled in front of her, but the howling did not stop. Kaija, calling all the Seriss wolves for a pack meeting. That included herself, despite how strange the whole concept seemed to her. And much to her dismay, her patient twitched underpaw, as if he were trying to claw himself to his paws. Sibylla nudged him back to his nest before he managed to lift a paw, reassuring him that she would excuse him at the impromptu rendezvous.
Surely, even someone as bitter and cruel as the Seriss Alpha would forgive a dying soldier's absence, right?
She would take the blame if necessary.
For a brief heartbeat however, she pondered what consequences would ensue if she skipped this meeting altogether. Would she punished? Even if she was with a wounded wolf? In the end, she stood up, assuming that receiving dirty glares from her superior for the rest of the season wasn't worth the hassle. All the hunter needed right now was plenty of rest, those poppy seeds she had given him would help him sleep more soundly. If anything happened though, she would stay close by.
Rather slowly, Sibylla trudged through the deserted cave, wordlessly eyeing a vast collection of healing plants and other supplies, all neatly sorted and stored in clefts and overhangs of the den. Her supply of feverfew and juniper berries could use restocking, she took a mental note of that. Perhaps tomorrow, when the youngling either survived or perished, and she hoped it would be the former. Before she departed, the healer washed her paws in a tiny pond in a corner of the den, cleaning away any lingering smell of herbs or blood.
A blinding light welcomed her as she stepped outside. Although the sun was setting, it was still bright in comparison to the dim lighting of her den. Fortunately, perhaps unfortunately, the pack meeting space was just a couple of foxtails away. Therefore, she had a good view of everything that was going on without having to march to the center to get everyone's attention. To her relief, Kaija looked busy conversing with a warrior, uttering something about missing them. This could get interesting.
Interesting or not, Sibylla sat by the mouth of the cave, perking her ears to catch some juicy gossip from the pack meeting. She didn't bother to say anything, preferring to remain in the shadows, watching almost akin to a pale ghost. tags ;; Kaija, Medusa

he raised her head from its lowered position as the silence dragged on, only emphasized by the slow drip of condensation from the stalactites far above their heads. The expanse of white under her eyes only served to emphasize the wry edge to her smile, one that she had to actively work to keep subdued rather than allowing it to grow to the full-blown grin that wanted to break free. Another wolf might have found it awkward, but social situations were not on the relatively short list of things that Medusa tended to give a damn about.
Finally the alpha acknowledged her, and she took that as reason enough to drop into something more comfortable; the expanse of her body sprawled along the cold cave floor, the chill of the stone seeping up through her fur as she looked up at the brute. ”I haven’t encountered a soul,” The coal-coated wolf huffed out an annoyed breath as her gaze narrowed. ”Tracking isn’t exactly my forte, but even I can tell that the scents of the missing have started to go stale. Either they succumbed to the winter or they fled.” Truly, she didn’t particularly care either way; all but a few of her packmates were largely incidental to her, only becoming relevant when she grew bored enough to bother with them.
Her ears swiveled atop her narrow head as the soft cadence of pawsteps reached her, and she tilted her head up and back, ocher eyes falling upon the form of Sibylla from an upside-down vantage. Twisting, she pushed herself up into a seated position and offered the female a large, toothy grin before she turned back to Kaija, the expression dropping from her face. She was, obviously, familiar with the healer; she was a warrior, after all, and had gotten her fair share of wounds treated as a result. But something about that wolf’s den made her brain itch. She hated the neat rows of herbs and the pungent scent of green things; the orderliness and sterile feeling to it all made her want to knock things to the ground and trash the place a little; make it look like someone actually lived in there.
She’d managed to resist the urge so far.
”Anyways,” Medusa drawled, ”If anyone is left that has half a care for their continued wellbeing, they’ll show up on their own now that you’ve called. It’d be such a shame if you had to give Sibylla even more work to do.” She lifted a hind leg to absentmindedly scratch behind her ear.

Hmm... Kaija listened to what his warrior had to say and to say he was disappointed by what he heard would be an understatement. For their sake those who have not shown up yet were better off dead, Rather than offending the heartless head of the Seriss who would likely track them down and make them wish they were if they had just deserted his pack, "I see." Kaija stated his optics narrowing ever so slightly, a deep rumble forming in his throat once more as his claws scraped against the hard stone beneath his frame. Lost in his musings for a bit mainly thinking of the punishments he would unleash upon those who did not heed his call. So entranced in his thoughts the brute almost missed the arrival of the pack healer. Almost, With a shake his his head he pulled himself from those thoughts for the time being.
Dipping his head in the direction of the aforementioned healer welcoming her to the meeting, If there was any wolf outside of his warriors that Kaija had even the slightest amount of respect for, it was Sibylla. The pack healer after all if it was not for her keeping his warriors in fighting shape, it was possible that the Seriss would have crumbled away some time ago. Did he truly know what she did exactly? No and to be honest, In his opinion it was best kept that way, He and his warriors did their thing and Sibylla did hers. His attention was drawn back to his warrior as her tone rang out into the air once more. prompting a rather chilling laugh to emit from the cruel minded brute, it seemed as if she had read his mind.
”Anyways,If anyone is left that has half a care for their continued wellbeing, they’ll show up on their own now that you’ve called. It’d be such a shame if you had to give Sibylla even more work to do.”
"That would indeed be a shame, We wouldn't want to her to waste what little herbs she has at the moment, on wolves who do not deserve her tender care." Kaija remarked shifting his gaze back to the healer for just for a moment. "If you need any assistance with gathering more, be sure to let me know" With that said he turned his attention back to the warrior before him. "And you Medusa" He paused for a moment, knowing fully well that she'd probably take enjoyment in the orders he was about to give her."I'm sending you to the border, If you find any deserters you are to bring them to me, by any means necessary. If you run into any loners.....Well, show them the error of their ways for straying into our lands".

The pristine-looking healer remained silent as her two packmates exchanged routine words, seemingly unenthused by their conversation. Her pale gaze fluttered elsewhere, as if to make her appear unimpressed or even apathetic to their shenanigans. The truth hid elsewhere, however, as Sibylla was more than intrigued by what her fellow Seriss wolves had to say. Some juicy gossip that absolutely did not involve her in any way, shape or form? Count her in! The more, the merrier.
Not that there was too much gossip to listen to, as the packs numbers had been running thin, twindled by the cruel winter or... other unfortunate circumstances. Whatever the reason could be, Kaija was not pleased to see so few numbers around. Sibylla almost waited for him to start talking foxdung about those that had yet to show up, the conversation however shifted to her, much to her surprise. Herbs? True, some items of her stock could use a quick foraging trip, but nothing too extreme. She had seen worse, she had endured worse. And for the first time in moons, she felt confident that if a - only hypothetically - massive forest fire broke out and consumed all of the pack's territory and injured every wolf in the perimeter, she would have the resources to provide proper medical care to all of them.
Life wasn't so bad.
"I'm fairly stocked on herbs, all things considered..." the medic voiced out her recent thoughts, tilting her head a little. Would they actually lend her a helping paw if she had been running low? Well, Kaija had proven himself, to an extent. Maybe he would fetch her a dandelion and a goldenrod if she looked at him nicely. Medusa on the other paw... Nah, enough of that!
The leader started spewing orders, noting something about deserters. Sibylla's ears perked. "I should probably mention that one of the yearlings has been staying in my den with severe injuries," she noted and paid a quick glimpse at the dim lit cave behind her. Although she couldn't see the young wolf, she could hear the faint, rhythmic echo of his slow breathing. He must have fallen asleep, she assumed. Would he be counted as a deserter?tags ;; Kaija, Medusa
